Hi all.
Question for you MM owners out there.
I'm thinking about moving from my 27" iMac to a MM with dual monitors. The 27 has some ridiculous resolution which is nice but I'm concerned about moving over to two 1080x1920 monitors plus picture quality.
Can anyone offer any advise on this?
I'm thinking about the 2.6 i7 with 16Gb RAM and an added SSD, not sure what to think about the fusion drives. |

Why not just run two monitors on your iMac ?

I have a Mini and an iMac and I do prefer the iMac, but I have to say there is nothing wrong with the Mini
My iMac just seems a little bit quicker than the supposedly faster Mini. I can only put difference down the the slow 2.5"" hard drive in the mini.
However when I say the mini seems slow its only because I have the iMac set up at the side of it and can see it booting slightly quicker. If I didn't have the iMac I probably wouldn't have even noticed.

The fusion drive is an extra $250.00 don't forget.Is it worth it it is your call to make.The MM you might buy sounds like it is better than the i mac especially with 2 monitors involved.Good Luck |

well had a look at monitors today and I'm really liking the TBD except for the price and the very real possibility of an upgrade from Apple of them. So now I'm thinking the MM with a TBD. Not cheap but basically the same as what I have now with a nice speed boost.
Perhaps I should hold on to my iMac a little longer. I was really hoping to get a nice speed boost.
I also looked at the new iMacs, nice but I felt trapped with this one not being able to upgrade to SSD. At least with a MM that's user friendly.
Other thing I noticed was the MM is the only machine that still supports FW800. Another Apple standard going the way of the Dodo... |

Yes I agree.
I had been thinking of upgrading to a new 27" iMac's for a while now but having just had to swap out the internal HDD in my existing iMac I didn't fancy being locked into a system that wasn't user repairable.
with my existing iMac it was a fairly easy job to do, but the new one has its glass glued in place making it almost impossible to do yourself.

I think the adhesive design is totally blown out of proportion. Our techs can pop the panel off in a few seconds and reapply it just as quickly. There is the added benefit of no issues of dust and fingerprints etc. getting under the glass. Often a tech would spend more time dealing with issues of contamination under the glass than the repair itself.
I see no reason why a tech savvy end user will have and issue with the new display.
I see this issue as being similar to the initial Mac mini, putty knife issue. People made it seem like there was no way to get into them. We know this is not the truth. |

I'd read that the adhesive meant it was a risk move taking off the glass with a high risk of cracking or damaging it. How do they pop the panel off ?
the old iMac's magnets were a really cool way of doing it

I'm not going to go into detail, I just wanted to address your concern. Everything you want to know is available online 
gowyn, there are pluses and minuses to both the mm and the iMac. I like them both and own both. |

It seems like you might go the way of the mac mini.You are stuck with the i mac not being able to modify it if you want. |
