I am a long time fan of Textedit. I still use it probably more times than any other word processor. That said, it has a speech function Edit / Speech / Start / Stop which is useful. However what I want to be able to do, is save the text being read as an audio file. Preferably something universal like MP3.
I am not sure if it can be coverted on the fly so to speak, or I have to use some other tool.
Any ideas ?
Cheers

I don't know of a free program like the one I linked above. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

Thanks Tony.
I've tried Sunflower in the past. Unfortunately, it literally turns your machine into a microphone. The net result being, it not only picks up the text file being read out, but other extraneous sounds like harddrive sounds, or noises in the house etc...
Audacity is a bit overwhelming at the moment.
It's go so many bells & whistles that I haven't the foggiest where to start.
If only there were some sort of plugin or Textedit plus...

Yes, this would work. I'm not sure if this is still true, but a couple of years ago, the evaluation copy of Audio Hijack was restricted to recording no more than 10 minutes of audio. So Aqua, if your Textedit files can be read in less than 10 minutes, that might work for you.
P.S. I know you're a fan of Textedit, but have you given a text editor called 'Bean' a try? It's smaller and friendlier than Textedit, and it's free. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

Thanks for the info JB.
Re Bean.
Yep, a friend of mine told me about it.
At the time I was looking for another editor that offers Kerning.

I'll look into it..
