|
|
I'm running Mountain Lion, and thought I'd previously removed Java. However with the new warning I did some checking and it's showing up. I've deactivated it in my browsers. However I no longer have the options to remove it.
I've looked in /Applications/Utilities - there is no Java application there (good)
I've looked in Control Panel/Other - there no Java icon either (good)
However, when I drill down in my HD/System/Library I have a Java folder with /Extensions, /JavaVirtualMachines and /Support - I don't like just nuking a system folder, but I'm not sure if I should or the best way to totally remove Java at this point, other then maybe to install and uninstall, thoughts or advice anyone? _________________ iMac 24" 2.4 GHz 4GB | Logitech S530 | Z-2300 speakers | NewerTech Guardian MAXimus RAID

Are you saying that without Java, OS X will not function? It is an integral part of OS X? _________________ 2.0 GHz i7 Mini 8 GB RAM, OWC Merc Extreme SSD & Samsung Spinpoint

Yes. Flash is from Adobe. Also, OS X is not dependent on java. |

Yes, your Mac will explode if you remove Java. It is so critical to OS X that Apple couldn't be trusted to continue to work on the OS X version of Java, and laid the entire foundation of OS X with Oracle to be installed by the user as of 10.7.

You specifically said os: | macmanmacman wrote: | | if you remove java completely your o.s will no longer function bad idea |
Neither Aperture nor iWork plugins are based on java. Because something is called a plugin, does not mean it is java. Apple removed the java plugin which is primarily used by browsers. You can still leave java installed.
