| All of a sudden I am hearing the clicking sound of my MM 2011 model through my computer speakers. When I shut them off I can hear the clicking also from the MM HD. I hear this when watching news videos like CNN and others. When i use Firefox I hear nothing.Do you think my HD is going? I have this 1 year exactly. My warranty expired already. Should i replace this with a SSD instead?Any type of tests fore this I can do? Thanks Marvin |

I would assume the HD could die any second. I would:
(a) immediately make copies of any really important stuff to another disk, DVD-R or USB stick
(b) order a replacement HD in an external case
(c) clone your old internal disk to your new external one (SuperDuper or others)
(d) check you can boot/run from the external (it will be slow, but it should run OK)
(e) swap your internal/external drives
(f) reformat/check the old drive - it may last a while longer, but I wouldn't trust it. _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

Hmm. Did you say you can hear BOTH a mechanical click and an electrical click (coming out of the speakers)?
It's the mechanical click that makes me suspect the worst (being a pessimist!) _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

Patient: “Doctor, doctor my arm hurts when I do this!” Doctor “Well stop doing it, you fool” - Stop watching MSNBC
What browser are you using? Safari? If so try Firefox and see if you still have the same issue. I assume that nbc is using flash, do you have the latest flash build?
Fact is some hard drives fail sooner then others; 1 day, 1 month, 1 year, 10 years - all will fail eventually. _________________ iMac 24" 2.4 GHz 4GB | Logitech S530 | Z-2300 speakers | NewerTech Guardian MAXimus RAID

I thought you said that when you use FireFox you don't hear the clicking?

| I just know one thing... Clicking + Seagate hard drive = death on the horizon. That has been my experience over the years. That being said, the current Mac minis use Hitachi hard drives. It's been my experience that they are far more reliable. I would just back up and play it by ear for a while. |

How is the WD hard drive just for back up in an external HD? Thanks |

Sounds like "click of death", I'd be following mooblie's instructions.
<edit> or, just noticed this in another 123MM thread:
