Anyone know of an app that works like the old version of Skitch. One that will let you take a quick screen shot and upload it to the web to use on forums etc.
Skitch was one of my favourite Mac apps but that was before Evernote got their hands on it and *&$%$d it right up. The current version is damn near useless and doesn't even come close to the original apps functionality. _________________ Phil

+1! Evernote ruined Skitch.
Take a look at Tinygrab if you're just looking to share screenshots. I use it all the time and it works well.

Cheers Bill, I do still have the old Skitch dmg's but I'm looking for an alternative now
Thanks Badger I've downloaded Tinygrab and just trying it out now. It hasn't got the anotations of skitch but it seems to do everything else I want pretty well.
Testing - here's a grab of your last post

I've found another one which does allow annotation - LittleSnapper
For the image upload this one needs configuring to your own hosting acccount or flickr, and requires a licence. I had an old Macheist licence which came in handy
Although the image editing allows annotations it doesn't seem to allow resizing and I've also had a few problems with my web host randomly denying ftp access when I try to upload the images, it works one minute but not the next but this could be my host and not the app. _________________ Phil

LittleSnapper is a nice app, but it's rather expensive.
I'm glad to hear that Tinygrab gives you another option. I think you are limited to 10-15 screenshots a day (I only use it sparingly), but it works well. It's also free up until that point. |

I just read a story on tuaw.com about the comments that Glenn pointed to. It's encouraging that the developer (Evernote) listened, pretty amazing how the userbased turned against Skitch (well Evernote) for dropping features. I appreciate that Evernote saved Skitch but it was a huge black eye for them to release 2.0 like they did. _________________ iMac 24" 2.4 GHz 4GB | Logitech S530 | Z-2300 speakers | NewerTech Guardian MAXimus RAID

Thanks Glenn, great to know the developer was listening to everyones complaints. That was partly why I posted, in the vague hope the negative comments might finally get through, which is better than everyone staying quiet and just finding something new, in which case everyone looses out.
I was an early adopter of skitch and I have to say that it was one of my most used and favourite apps, so its great that the old Skitch will continue on _________________ Phil

Just tried the v1 app and its still not the old skitch
The skitch website is no longer supported, instead your snap shots are uploaded to your Evernote account. The real beauty of skitch was grabbing a quick screen shot, annotating it, clicking share and immediately being able to post the image on a forum all with just a few clicks. With the evernote addition its now just too many hoops to jump through to do the same and for me its no longer a seamless operation, the copy link after sharing does't work and it no longer takes me to my account where I can clip the image url to post on a forum. So instead I have to manually log into my evernote account and grab the link and its just a lot more hassle to do the same. It also doesn't give the option of just posting the image without the landing page.
Hopefully version 2.x will add these features back in _________________ Phil

Cheers Glenn,
I'll keep my eye out for the update appearing on the App Store. Its still showing v2.0.2 to me at the moment. _________________ Phil

I have been using Jing to make screen captures
and such with annotations. I upload them to my
Flickr account and then use Flickr to post the photos
to various web sites. I've never read the instructions
on how to use Jing. Its all been pretty intuitive.
Jing is free and may be worth a look if your unhappy
with Skitck/Evernote. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Thanks, I'll use Jing if I need to share photos on the net, but I like Skitch a lot more for captures I don't plan on sharing. |
