|
|
I'm sure this must has been addressed before, but somehow I didn't find it - sorry.
Just having got a 27" wide screen I was wondering whether you can have multiple (well two'd be fine already) apps open and visible on the (one) screen at the same time - one active, the other not?
Thanks for any advice! _________________ Mac Mini mid-2007 2GHz 2GB 120GB |

For instance:
Have Finder in the left-hand half and Word in the right-hand; or Firefox on the left (watching a youtube video) and Mail on the right typing an email. _________________ Mac Mini mid-2007 2GHz 2GB 120GB |

Just open both the applications you want and:
(a) resize the windows to about half the screen size (by dragging the bottom right corner) then
(b) position the windows on the screen (by dragging the title bar) to where you want them?
Pretty much the same as in Windows or any graphical-user-interface-based computer for the last 20+ years?
You don't have to limit yourself to two either... _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

That seems to work for some combinations, but not for all, For instance, I don't seem to be able to have Mail with any other app on one screen? _________________ Mac Mini mid-2007 2GHz 2GB 120GB |

Click the green lamp in the top left corner of the Mail window... _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

That does allow me to customize the size, like with the other apps, but somehow Mail - even when covering only let's say one-third of the screen - doesn't allow sharing the screen with other apps. For instance, when I reserve the top one-third of my screen for Mail and the bottom one-third for Firefox, I can't get both of them on the screen simultaneously... _________________ Mac Mini mid-2007 2GHz 2GB 120GB |

I'm guessing its not this as you say you can customise the size of the window but are you running mail in the full screen mode ?
In the top right corner of Mail app is a diagonal arrow. clicking this puts it into full screen mode.
If so go to the top of the screen until a drop down appears, then click on the blue diagonal arrows to disable it. _________________ Phil

Is this a post-SnowLeopard feature of Mail, Cypher? I can't see a diagonal arrow in the top right corner of Mail (v 4.6)? _________________ Martin at HeadSpin HD now on Blu-ray |

Yes I think full screen apps were introduced with Lion, mooblie.
I'm not 100% sure as I rarely use them. I run dual monitors so prefer to arrange my apps on the two screens rather than flicking between various windows. _________________ Phil

I've got v3.6 (Leopard) and couldn't find that diagonal arrow either.
Question (for me) remains why some/most (?) apps seem happy to share a screen, Mail somehow doesn't - anyone knows why and if there's a workaround? _________________ Mac Mini mid-2007 2GHz 2GB 120GB |

I've never had a problem with Mail sharing the screen with other apps, and I've had a Mac since Tiger. _________________ Phil

Shouldn't be any problem with the screen real estate in 10.5...

| Multitasking on the Mac has been supported since System 7. It allows two or more applications to be run simultaneously and is the reason why you can empty the trash or copy files in the background while running photoshop in the foreground for example. I don't believe that you can multitask in iOS yet (but I may be wrong) |
