I think the default for iTunes is to leave your media where it is and just add the reference to iTunes, however I tend to like all my media in one location so I let iTunes manage mine and add the media to its library.
So I have my iTunes preferences set to
"Keep my iTunes folder organised" and also
"Copy files into iTunes Media Folder when adding to my library"
you can find these in the Advanced Tab in iTunes Preferences
with those settings I then just drag the mp3's from the finder to the main iTunes Window and let iTunes copy them into the correct locations in the /Users/phil/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder structure.
When I did mine I actually networked the Mac and the PC and then using the finder on the Mac connected to the PC and dragged them straight from the PC into iTunes on the Mac. So I only had the one copy on the Mac in the correct iTunes library. If you already have the files on your Mac you would end up with two copies of the file, so just delete the one you dragged after confirming it was correctly copied into your iTunes hierarchy. _________________ Phil
