| I'm thinking of picking up a cheap 2,1 mac mini, the 1.83 Ghz core 2 duo version. It only cost $75.00 and figured why not............ anyway, I wanted to use it as a media server for just my daughters stuff, cartoons, childrens shows, etc. Anyway, I know that I can't stream anything at 1080, but was wondering if I could get away with maybe 720p mp4 video to an Apple TV. If anyone has any suggestions or advice on this topic, I would appreciate it. Can Snow Leopard be installed on it? |

Only $75? I'd slam a better CPU in there, or a Crystal HD, and go for the 1080.
I have 10.5 and 10.6 on my 2006 mini.

I have a 2007 Mini and yes Snow Leopard runs quite nicely.
Upgrade the memory to the 2GB maximum. The main thing with the older minis is that the cooling fan bearings start to fail, if you can hear a constant buzzing sound, it is time to replace the fan.
The optical drive can also be choked with dust and may not work. |

I would purchase a copy of snow leopard server for it because you can use the itunes streaming server app in snow leopard server to stream everything to the apple tv and much easier then on regular snow leopard..
i have a older imac setup that way and it works nicely without any complex setup |
