Hi,
Is there a nice bump if I were to go from the core2duo to an i5 Mac mini? I mainly surf the net and use Excel and Word for Grad school.
Much difference between i5 and i7?

The new processors are much faster, but I wouldn't upgrade based on your needs. Nothing you mentioned is even tasking your current processor.
If you really want to upgrade, I would wait for an Ivy Bridge Mac mini to be released to make the upgrade cost worthwhile at least you'll be getting better graphics performance and likely USB 3.0 ports. |

Yes I had a core 2 duo and now I own an i5 there is a difference a little faster. I surf the web you like also.The i 7 faster but not by to much. |

The difference between core2duo and i5/7 is hyperhtreading.
Hyperthreading provides an additional virtual CPU, under ideal circumstances it is like having 4 CPUs, more can be done at the same time.
The most noticeable difference is when there is a virus scanner running in the background, there is a lot less slowdown.
i7 is a faster version of the i5, higher clock speed and more cache.
i7s can also support more cores, the downside is the more physical cores, the more heat is generated and this limits how fast the cores can run. |
