Is my system hooped, or is it just that there has been absolutely no activity on this forum for the past few days? _________________ DropBox, free cloud storage for all, check it out Here |

It has been spookily quiet of late. Don't think I've ever seen no new posts for a couple of days before. _________________ Phil

I was actually working on our database quite a bit this past weekend. I wouldn't doubt that some of this work influenced the ability of users to post and/or register. I mean, it's totally possible that some posts never went through. So, that may also account for things being quiet.
The work itself was done to address slow posting. We have also been having issues with keeping the forums in sync. Mostly due to the size of the database now.
Have you guys had any issues with posting? _________________ Glenn

None at all. Haven't even noticed if the site was slow or not, as it always seems zippy to me!

Yes I have noticed the slow posting for a while now. When you hit Submit it just tends to sit and think about things for a while and you sometimes wonder if it will post or time out.
{edit} It just did it then as well when I hit submit took about 5 seconds or so before it posted. _________________ Phil

Thanks for the info SC and Cypher.
Yeah, I still think we are still having some issues with posting. The rest of the site and navigation feels nice and zippy though. _________________ Glenn

Its a bit weird the posting issue as clicking around and viewing posts its really quick. For me on a 64Mbps connection its instant loads when I click, but posting has that delay like I'm back on a dialup connection waiting for the progress bar to fill up and always seems to stall about 40% done and then just when you think its given up it posts. _________________ Phil

It did the same on my post above. I saw the progress bar slowly go to 30-40% then I got a 6 second delay with nothing happening, and then it posted. _________________ Phil

Okay, thanks for the report Cypher. I'm going to look a couple more things this evening. I just might have to optimize the database again and take it offline. _________________ Glenn

I contacted Charles about the posting issues last night. I'm not sure what he did, but it seems much faster today. It doesn't seem to hang either. _________________ Glenn

The Mac mini server is the only server model that Apple sells.
Anything could happen, but I doubt it very much. |
