I've got a good setup that I'm pretty happy with now. MacMini running XBMC setup the way I like it, hosts all of my movies and TV shows for the living room. I have an ATV1 in our bedroom that which works fine, but as it's currently unhacked I need to keep iTunes running on the MacMini so it can access all the content that isn't stored on the ATV1 HD. The downside is that I have to manually add the movies to iTunes to keep things synced.

I'm looking at that MacMini now realizing my son's old XP box is on it's last legs and debating about giving it to him and then using something else for my Movie machine. So looking over the WD TV Live Hub it looks like it could be a decent replacement, with a much lower cost of ownership.

Have others gone this route or gone with something else? Any thoughts or ideas?

You can automate the conversion and adding to iTunes by using iVI. Instead of the WDTV, which is also nice, have a look at the Pivos DS. It runs XBMC and Plex. The cost is around $100. Another option would be to run Plex Media Server on your Mini and the Plex client on a Roku.

Phillip thanks for the feedback I'll look at the Pivos DS.

I've tried Plex, didn't like it. If I move the Mini I'll want something that can hold movies on its own, as we take it in the RV and to share with other devices. The mini is good, but a lot of money tied up in a HTPC too.
