iPhone 5 Review Roundup

We like to do a roundup of reviews for every major Apple hardware release. And this time around, it's a roundup of reviews for the new iPhone 5. We're talking about reviews from the likes of Engadget, AllThingsD, The Verge, Daring Fireball and more. And so far, they've been pretty positive. Taking note of the iPhone 5's design, 4" Retina display, 4G LTE performance, camera, and battery life. So, down below you'll find excerpts and links to each review. Check them out if you are interested!

Engadget "The iPhone 5 is a significant improvement over the iPhone 4S in nearly every regard, and in those areas that didn't see an upgrade over its predecessor - camera, storage capacity - one could make a strong case that the iPhone 4S was already ahead of the curve. Every area, that is, except for the OS. If anything, it's the operating system here that's beginning to feel a bit dated and beginning to show its age," writes Tim Stevens.

The Verge "The iPhone 5 is unquestionably the best iPhone ever made, and for the mass market, it's the best smartphone, period. Between the new design, blazing fast LTE, and excellent battery life, there's little to not like here. It's a competent, confident, slick package, certainly made better by most (but not all) of the updates and changes in iOS 6," writes Joshua Topolsky.

CNET - "The iPhone 5 completely rebuilds the iPhone on a framework of new features and design, addressing its major previous shortcomings. It's absolutely the best iPhone to date, and it easily secures its place in the top tier of the smartphone universe," writes Scott Stein.

AllThingsD "Apple has taken an already great product and made it better, overall. Consumers who prefer huge screens or certain marginal features have plenty of other choices, but the iPhone 5 is an excellent choice," writes Walt Mossberg.

New York Times "If you have an iPhone 4S, getting an iPhone 5 would mean breaking your two-year carrier contract and paying a painful penalty; maybe not worth it for the 5's collection of nips and tucks. But if you've had the discipline to sit out a couple of iPhone generations - wow, are you in for a treat," writes David Pogue.

USA Today "People have always had lofty expectations for the iPhone 5, especially as the competition stiffens. In delivering a fast, attractive, LTE-capable and larger-screen handset, Apple has met those expectations with a gem," writes Ed Baig.

Time "The bottom line, in case it isn't clear already: The iPhone 5 is one terrific smartphone. Ignore the naysayers - even without any awesome technological breakthroughs, it's a sizable improvement on the iPhone 4S. For many upgraders, LTE alone will be worth the price of admission," writes Harry McCracken.

The Loop - "My experience with the iPhone 5, iOS and the EarPods has been great. The iPhone is everything Apple said it would be and with iOS 6 built-in, it's clear to me that Apple has another winner on its hands," writes Jim Dalrymple.

Daring Fireball - "There's a reason why, just as with all five of its predecessors, it just says iPhone on the back. The iPhone 5 is all new technically, but it's the exact same thing as an idea. Apple is simply improving upon that idea year after year in infinitely finer detail, like a fractal. It's nice," writes John Gruber.

TechCrunch - "Those worried about the talk of disappointment surrounding the iPhone 5, I suggest you simply go to an Apple Store starting on Friday and try it for yourself. My guess is you'll immediately recognize just how ridiculous all that bluster actually is. The iPhone 5 is the culmination of Apple doing what Apple does best. This is the smartphone nearly perfected," writes MG Siegler.

Pocket-int - "The iPhone 5 is a phone that makes you feel safe. A phone that you know exactly how to use as soon as you take it out of the box and that is perfect for a huge number of people," writes Stuart Miles.

The Guardian - "With features including Siri, turn-by-turn navigation, new maps, a panoramic camera, 4G, restore to iCloud and a new digital dock, the iPhone 5 has it all and it is ahead of the competition again," writes Charles Arthur.

The Telegraph - "The iPhone 5 is a great smartphone made even better. It's fast, lightweight and backed by the largest application store for any device. It's also probably the most beautiful smartphone anyone has ever made," writes Shane Richmond.

T3 - "So, what to make of this latest upgrade. There's no denying that the iPhone 5 is a lovely thing, and the best iPhone to date. It could well be Apple's best-selling unit ever," writes Luke Peters.

SlashGear - "Does the iPhone 5 feel better in the hand than the iPhone 4S? Is it faster, and smoother running; does it have a more capable camera; can it access data more rapidly while on the move? Does the combination of iPhone hardware and iOS software feel the most holistic and balanced of any Apple smartphone to-date? The answer to all those questions is yes," writes Vincent Nguyen.

CBCNews - "Given the iPhone 5's sales expectations, it's clear that many consumers just don't care about the pricing. It's simply a must-have gadget," writes Peter Nowak.

The larger screen is okay, but I'm not blown away. I'm most impressed with the A6 performance and 4G speeds on AT&T. Because of that alone, here's how I left the Apple Store yesterday.
