|
|
| I'm just wondering about using a 3G SSD versus going with a 6G SSD in a 2011 Mac mini. Does it really matter or should I just go with the best bang for the buck with the largest capacity? Is there anything else I should be looking for in a SSD drive or with its firmware? I'm totally new to the SSD game, but anxious to get rolling. |

The choice depends on your budget and needs. Do you prefer speed or stability? Most of the fast 6G (OCZ, OWC) are notorious for lock ups. Intels aren't as fast but current ones are solid.

saul is correct.
intel is stable
samsung is stable
crucial m4 is stable.

big ssd 256gb very fast and stable code KINGCAKE brings it down 20 bucks from 340 to 320

a 160gb ssd sata II 277 code KINGCAKE brings it down to 257

a 256gb sataIII ssd 367 code KINGCAKE brings it down to 347.
I do a lot of mini upgrades to ssds. if you can afford to buy the 256gb crucial or the 256gb samsung above. If you can find that intel for 200 it is a good deal. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

Darn, I wish I had seen this sooner because I just ordered an OWC 240GB Mercury Electra 6G SSD for my late 2009 Mac mini and it's already at the local courier depot ready for pickup.
So should I send it back because it's crap? I always thought OWC was good quality. I went for the 6G because I might buy a more current Mac mini next year and use it in that. I prefer stability over speed. |

You can if you want, it's a good drive with good track record. Haven't had an issue with mine, since they were first introduced. _________________ 2.0 GHz i7 Mini 8 GB RAM, OWC Merc Extreme SSD & Samsung Spinpoint

That's good to know. Are you using yours in a 2011 mini?

Thanks. I guess I should have read the setups your signature.
I've ordered a 2.3 Mac mini 2011 to put the SSD in, and will put the 500GB HD from the 2011 mini into the 2009 mini. I'm probably going to be doing it all myself so I'm a bit nervous, lol.
