A local volunteer recreational trails organization I'm involved in just bought a refurbished digital projector. It supposedly comes with a soft case, as well as cables, remote, all that jazz.

A concern was raised about whether or not the soft case will be any good. What are our options if the case turns out to be one those low-quality deals made in someplace the manufacturer would rather not talk about? Does anyone in the US or Canada or Europe make quality cases for portable projectors?

According to the manufacturer's literature, the projector is 3 inches high, by 11.6 in. wide, by 9 in. deep, weighing in at 5.1 pounds.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the Pelican link. I had not considered a hard case. An interesting possibility.

Does anyone know of soft-case alternatives?

You can probably find a laptop case that will work, if it has adjustments. Are you traveling with it or just around town?

This projector will see light use, being stored most of the time.

It may occasionally go on the road, but I doubt it will ever go much more than 50 miles, one-way.

You mentioned that it supposedly has a case. Why not wait and see what it actually comes with it might not be an issue. Likely not, given it will be stored most of the time.

By the way I habe seen cheap knockoffs for those pelican cases for about 50 bucks they were still very rugged.

Our organization plans to wait for the unboxing and see what we get before making any evaluations. We're all just curious about what's available in case the factory-spec case doesn't work out, or in case something happens to that case.

invest into a hard case it may sound expensive but you need to think about how long you want to keep the projector protected and protect your investment into one

How do you get a price for a hard case? Do you have to request a quote directly from Pelican?

The projector arrived yesterday, and their idea of a "case" (a thin nylon bag with a little padding in the bottom) is a piece of ****.

Peli Cases are standard items, in various sizes. Easy to buy: e.g. search Amazon for "Pelican Case":
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pelican+case

You probably need something like a 1500, or maybe bigger?
