We have been waiting for those for 18 long months, but they are finally coming :
NewerTech miniSTACK v4
and
NewerTech miniSTACK MAX
are arriving (in March ?).
The second adds a Superdrive and an SD card reader to the 3.5" hard disk drive.
Too early to tell if the Optical CD/DVD Superdrive will be a 12.7 or 9.5mm slot-in version; if 12.7mm, a Blu-ray one could be substituted  .
The ODD add-on is not as compact as the tweak I made using a Mac Mini 2010 case, but much easier (if not cheaper ?). |

Two full year after the introduction of the Mac Mini new case in 2010, Newer Technology finally started shipping the miniStack USB3 they announced in January : $90 at OWC; for "only" $390 more (!) it can be pre-fitted with a 4GB 3.5" drive.
The miniStack Max, which adds an ODD to the 3.5" HD is still "coming soon". |
