Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Posted by: Staff
VideoLAN has announced that it plans to release VLC 2.0 for Mac later this week. This major update of the software brings a totally new user interface (shown below), experimental support for Blu-ray media playback, native full-screen support for Mac OS X Lion, support for VLC's lua-based extensions, and more. You can view the complete change log over here if you are interested. Additional screenshots of the new user interface can be seen here.

The RC is already up for download. It looks good, haven't tested yet. If you don't like the black theme, there's a Mac-white/grey theme also.

Haven't messed around with the RC, but I really like the black theme. Having everything in one windows looks nice too.

Support for Blu-ray playback? They just mean with rips and unencrypted movies, right?

I would imagine it might be possible to play Blurays since the HDMI key was cracked, so it might be similar to the way DVD protection was cracked allowing VLC to play DVDs.
However, I would expect it to just play deDRM'd rips of discs.
