Hi,
I have an iMac 2011 27" with Thunderbolt port.
I'd like to know if it's possible to use the iMac display as a target display connecting a MacMini 2011 with thunderbolt port.
It might not have much sense having two Macs side by side, but I'd be using Lion with the iMac and (just occasionally) I'd be using Windows in the MacMini through bootcamp.
Is there any chance of using the iMac's display with both Macs and changing to the MacMini running Windows XP or 7? If so, can I switch through the screen icon on the toolbar?
I'm confused after reading this on Apple Support page: 'Can I use Target Display Mode with Boot Camp and Windows 7 using a Thunderbolt capable iMac? No. Target Display Mode is not supported using Boot Camp and Windows 7 on a Thunderbolt capable iMac.'
...Whereas I found this on Apple Store online: 'Apple Thunderbolt cable can also be used for Target Disk Mode between two Macs that support Thunderbolt, or to use a new iMac as a display for a MacBook Pro equipped with Thunderbolt'
So, I understand the thunderbolt cable doesn't work with Bootcamp in target display mode, but it actually allows an external display to be used from a MacPRO...Why can't I have a MacMini connected through Thunderbolt to a 27" display iMac??
I's appreciate any help, as I'm obviously lost here...
Thanks! |

You can connect a Thunderbolt mini via a Thunderbolt cable to a Thunderbolt 27" iMac.
If you want to run Windows you will have to use Parallels etc., not Bootcamp. |
