Nice job!
Well done!
You sound pleased, I would be.
Now you need to think about a
processor swap. That 1.66 Core
Solo is a snail. The fastest you
can go is a 2.33 Core 2 Duo. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Well, I've certainly thought about upgrading the CPU. However if I'm going to spend ~$100 for the 7600, then I must think about the alternative of spending $519 for this :

This new Mini would future-proof me for 5-7 years in HW & SW. Haven't tried figuring out yet if the ThunderBolt port could be used to connect to the 2 eSata inputs in the OWC Enclosure yet. But if it could and the speeds would improve the data throughputs then what's not to like (except it costs $400 more).
A further complication is the very limiting max memory in the 1,1 Mini (2GB). I have too much virtual memory disk swapping going on now since I typically have ~10 apps open plus Parallels for the Virtual Machine (XP). The new Mini would certainly solve that problem.
So I'm debating whether the 7600 is worth it, or as it seems to me it might be a better idea to stay with what I have now and go for the new Mini about a year from now. _________________ Mini 1,1 Core Duo, 1.66GHz, 2GB Mem, 1TB SATA HD & 2TB SATA HD in eSATA OWC Enclosure, ViewSonic G225f, other HDs in BlacX Docks, OS X 10.6.8 |

The two biggest improvements I had made
to my 1.1 model 1.66GHz mini was to replace
the processor with a faster one and to use
faster hard drives through an eSATA hack.
You can now easily add faster hard drives via
eSATA. Upgrading the processor is almost
the last thing you can do to improve performance.
Let me add that you can do a firmware hack to
your mini and fool it into behaving like a model
2.1 mini. A 2.1 mini can use 3.1 GB's of RAM.
That means your not stuck with 2 Gig's of RAM.
So hacks for the 1.1 model mini are:
1. faster eSATA Hard drives
2. faster Processor 2.33HGz Core2Duo
3. 3.1 Gig's of RAM through Firmware Hack
Sooner or later it may be possible to run
Lion reliably on your 1.1 mini.
The 64 million dollar question is, when do
I stop spending time, effort and MONEY on
old equipment? That time came for me late
last year. My old 1.1 mini sits in a box, unloved.
I don't consider the effort I put into it upgrading
as a waist. It was a hell of a lot of fun.
I think that it no longer makes sense spending
money on old equipment unless its useable on
the newer equipment you may buy. At least
thats how it is for me. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Check out this SpyderHub. I keeps your
Dual eSATA Enclosure relevant. It makes
it USB-2 and Firewire 800 compatible. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Exactly !
It doesn't make any sense to continue adding additional expense to an asset that has run its course. I'm going to keep this old 1,1 Mini for about another year then work out a deal with my son who has my old G4 mini, and I'll get a new one like the one I posted previously.
