|
|
I have the late-2010 Mac Mini Server with two 500GB normal HDDs in RAID-0.
Today I just received two sparkling new Seagate Momentus XT 500GB SSD/HDD drives.
a)
Before I start disassembling my Mac and replace the drives, have anyone heard about others who have done the samein a Mac Mini?
b)
Anyone using the Momentus XT in their machine and how does it compare to your old harddrive?
c)
You know any test tools I should run on my machine now to get some numbers on how my disc performance is now, and later run the same to compare in the new setup?
Thanks  _________________ :apple: Mac Mini DualCore i7 :: 2.7GHz :: 2x4GB DDR1867 :: 2x Intel520 240GB SSD for total 480GB :: Radeon HD 6630m :: Dell 2209WA :: Razer Mamba 2012 :: Apple Alu wired US keyboard w/ iSkin ProTouch black :: |

I have the Momentus XT in my 2011 base mini. The drive feels faster to me than the 5400 rpm drive the mini came with. Prior to this I had the XT in a 2009 mini, and it was clearly faster than the 500 gb 5400 rpm drive I replaced it with. I took it out because at first it was noisy and later was showing disk errors. Turned out to be bad, so I sent it to Seagate for replacement. When it came back, I decided to put it in the newer mini. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

That is probably why my drive went South. However, Seagate replaced mine promptly and the new drive hasn't shown any symptoms that the old one did. Also, there have been at least two firmware updates since I bought the original drive. I buy mostly Seagate drives and my overall experience with them has been excellent. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

With two steady hands and a few late nights when the wife is out of town, and I managed to do it without too much trouble...
Now just wondering how I should bench-test to show off in numbers how much quicker my machine actually responds?
(because oh yea it have made a huge impact in loading speed/boot time/file transfers!) _________________ :apple: Mac Mini DualCore i7 :: 2.7GHz :: 2x4GB DDR1867 :: 2x Intel520 240GB SSD for total 480GB :: Radeon HD 6630m :: Dell 2209WA :: Razer Mamba 2012 :: Apple Alu wired US keyboard w/ iSkin ProTouch black :: |
