well i had a core solo with 60gig drive and 512mb ram.
now it is 2ghz core 2 duo, 320gig hard drive, and wait 3gig ram.
i updated the efi so now it shows my mac mini as being a 2,1 instead of a 1,1.
all i had for ram was a 2gig stick and a 1 gig stick and the new efi lets me use all 3gig, my question is will it be able to go up to 4? |

As noted previously, while you can upgrade to 4GB-- and the OS will recognize the two 2Gig sticks-- because of the chipset limitations it will be limited to accessing 3GB. There's a slight performance improvement using matched 2Gig sticks (running synchronous dual channel vs. asynchronous channel)

how you upgraded your EFI?
What OS are you using?
Snow Leopard?

actually the efi update is really easy but if i remember right it requires a certain main board once the processor is upgraded to function correctly.
also you need to make sure the memory upgrade is within specs of the update but cool beans if you got it to work.
Also just another question????
did you plan on using lion??? or are you i would be interested to see if the lion installer would boot without giving you the error of the processor not being able to be used error because the efi is posting it as a core solo still |

then
You put the two files in / System / Library / CoreServices / Firmware Updates
You check the permissions.
then
sudo bless -mount / -firmware /System/Library/CoreServices/Firmware\ Updates/EFIUpdaterApp.efi -payload /System/Library/CoreServices/Firmware\ Updates/LOCKED_MM11_0055_08B.fd -options "-x efi-apple-payload0-data" --verbose |

should present the most problems to Lionize.
I have two new Lion Macs right now so I'm in
no hurry to Lion hack the 1.1. I'll wait till others
can easily hack with success. It'll be a while before
I give it a try.
I think the 3.1 RAM Gig limit is hardware (MB) not software.

it is hard ware for the 3gig limin but thats because your efi is a 32bit which limits it to 3gig but if you run at 64bit it will use the full 4gig |

|
|
| Hey I have a Mac Mini Generation 4 with 1.25 GHZ, 512 MB and was wanting to use it as a HTPC. I have installed the Flash hack to play version 11 adobe flash player and I was wondering does the upgrade in memory really help with video streaming? When I watch streaming it seems a little out of sync and jolty if you know what I mean. Does upgrading to a 1 gig stick help this? Or am I better to find another HTPC setup? Thanks in advance for your help, Vbosch |
