|
|
So i bought a PPC Mac about 8 months after they first came out. Its a G4, 1.25ghrz, 40 gig HD running Tiger 10.4.1 .
Over the last Mmmm 4-6 months i lost flash ability for Facebook and other places , lost support on photobucket and recently i seem to be losing support on YouTube. Thru my talking with Photobucket support team they suggested Ten-four-Fox but after reading a bit it doesn't seem to fix what i need. The Mini is still very reliable. I'm not a deep user but on it everyday on a couple of forums etc. Am i dead in the water or is there something ,(hack) that can help me?? ..
Any assistance would be appreciated.

You can enable Flash in TenFourFox.
Also, unless it was a typo, you should upgrade to 10.4.11.
I wouldn't advise upgrading to 10.5. I did and it's kind of a dog. You can get more stuff, like the newer versions of VLC, but overall, I don't care for it. If I didn't need it for a certain app, I would go back to 10.4.

Without a doubt I would recommend upgrading the memory!
I found out about the Flash deal from this -

TenFourFox 6 disabled plugins by default, meaning Flash is not there. This can be enabled easily by doing the following:
In the address bar type 'about:config' and press enter. Look for 'tenfourfox.plugins.enabled' and set it to 'true' this will enable Flash. I haven't had any problems so far and Flash content like YouTube seems to run faster than it did in Safari 5. |

Well i made the change,( True ), in Ten Four Fox but nothing has changed. I can only assume that with Tiger there's nothing you can do. Its too bad because its a perfectly good computer.

There is a way to hack a model-specific Install DVD (which can be found for $20 on eBay) into a universal retail Install DVD.
The instructions given for Snow Leopard there would likely work for Leopard too, except that there is a chicken and egg problem : you need a universal retail Install DVD to copy system/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg !
But these more complicated instructions are likely to work for the more adventurous (but I did not test them). |
