I thought it would be nice if we could share our Christmas tree, lights and other holiday decoration photos.
Feel free to post your photos!
I ordered an 8' real tree from Costco, it should arrive in a few days. I'll post a pic once it arrives and is decorated. Hopefully I have enough decorations to do it justice I've never had a real tree before. |

Would do, but our real stuff is in boxes this year.
We're just going to put a small real tree this weekend.
Look forward to seeing yours though. Hackers and I always did this in past years. |

I might be embarrassed but even if it's crappy I'll still post it. I think we are in for more tree than we bargained for. |

Our tree is going up this weekend. I will post a picture then. Just wait until you see it cause we have a TON of ornaments. It's a little white trashy, but we love it that way. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Nothing instills good behavior in children during the holidays like the threat of a Germanic goat-like demon with claws, a cat o' nine tails, and a penchant for eating young flesh or throwing kids into the river.
The Krampus (or Krampusz, in Hungarian) is a demon who accompanies St. Nicholas when he visits Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland and Hungary. Traditionally, young men dress up as the Krampus in the first two weeks of December and particularly on the eve of December 6 and roam the streets frightening children (and adults) with birch branches, rusty chains and bells. My Anatomy & Physiology instructor is Dutch and had this to say about another one of Santa's enforcers: Zwarte Piet ("Black Peter")
In Holland he was called Zwarte Piet which means “Black Pete”. He was the helper to St Nicholas (Sinterklass—saint Klaus). He handed out goodies to the good boys and girls, but if you were bad, Swarte Piet would throw you into a sack and carry you off.
My mom tells a funny story of my uncle (her brother) when they were very young. Uncle Karel had been a particularly bad boy at school and had mouthed off at his mom too! His parents warned him that Sinterklaas would NOT bring him any presents. He laughed it off and basically said, “there’s no such thing as Santa Claus.” On Christmas Eve, two of my mother’s uncles dressed up as Sinterklaas and Swarte Piet and came to the house. The kids were wide-eyed with wonder! They handed my mom several presents, but because Karel had been bad he got nothing. He began crying, but that was just the beginning of his punishment! Much to his dismay, Sinterklaas and Piet stuffed him into a big gunnysack and started out the door with him screaming and yelling. They eventually let him out, but boy, did he behave from then on!
Some traditions need to be continued! |
