Oh my god, there is a virus in the wild that infects Mac computers, it's called "Norton-anti".
All joking aside, if you do even a bit of research you'll find that Norton products are NOT recommended for Mac computers. I'm not saying that this is your problem with Safari but it very likely could be. |

I would venture to guess that you were hacked because you were phished.
You should use multiple accounts, with an Admin account, your account and an account for your wife. I believe that 10.6 and newer have mandatory Guest accounts so that should cover any other users, other than children(who should also have their own accounts).
Overall, I've heard of three viruses for OS X. One is from China and mostly affects Chinese printshops, one is downloaded with pirated versions of iLife or iWork, and there is one general virus. There might be more, but these are the main ones I've heard of.
Make sure to have good privacy practices and only sign into websites from an existing link and not a link sent in an email.
Remember, OS X is not Windows. Also remember that the easiest way to attack a computer is through the users, and not the OS.

| Wow you installed a virus scanner don't get me wrong you need a small virus scanner but mac's are not affected by malware or spyware like microsoft win blows 7 so i wouldn't be to concerned and if they changed your password for your e-mail don't go accessing your e-mail online go through the mail app on the mac it's safer. |
