|
|
Hello,
I have a 2007 Mac Mini MB139A/B 2.0GHz with SuperDrive.
The SuperDrive does not show in the Finder or Disk Utility. It has power and starts spinning.
I put a second HDD PATA<>SATA caddy in and this too is not seen. It has power and starts spinning.
I have reset everything you can with unplugging the power... taking out the battery... and restarting with Command+Option+P+R. Nothing helps.
I would like to know, would the issue be the Logic Board or could it be the connect card (Apple 820-1925-A) - or is there anything else I can try?
Thanks so much!!!!

Where is that kept? The Mac Mini seems to have few parts...
But the main HDD works fine - just the optical drive. |

| the drive controller card is the card that the cd drive and the hard drive connect to when the card malfunctions the cd drive stops working or the hard drive stops working now for the bad part apple doesn't sell just the card you have to purchase the card and the tray that everything sits in |

is the second dvd player you tested correct. is it an apple player?
if you are certain the dvd player is good then the connect card is bad.

this is a photo of the card part number is 820-1925-a as you said.
ebay has that part some times but I would just buy an external player.
this works but is over priced

this is a much better seller with better prices

I think the problem is in the card but if where my machine paying 30 for a new card or paying for an external player case

Cartainly cheapest/best option will be to go for an external USB DVD-Writer. Pretty much any of these should work - from Amazon UK:

That wouldn't really work for my plans - I have replaced the drive with a SSD and I needed the optical bay for a second HDD (I already have the caddy) for the virtual memory to be based.
Using it as a media server. |

Sciamo, I had a similar problem to you a while back.
I had replaced the Interconnect Board like you and
everything was fine..........for a while. I replaced the
Interconnect Board a second time and it worked
intermittently. It was the Logic Board (Mother Board)
that was failing. I also had a secondary problem.
The Apple Sound Board also didn't work buy I
didn't know it because I use an External USB
Sound Card. Is your sound working? When you
boot do you get the Startup Chime? _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Heya,
Yes the sound works very well. The optical drive gets power as well. It just doesn't show in the Finder or in Disk Utility. When I put the second HDD caddy in, the same thing happens.
There is no cheap solution to the logic board is there?
In the end, this system is going to be used to access a firewire HDD to stream through iTunes to Apple TV. I've spent quite a lot of time going through all my DVDs and ripping them. Have a few Bond films left and then I'm done. I suppose in the end it isn't worth spending a lot of money on.
Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like your Logic Boards better days
are behind it. One day soon it probably won't boot.
Have a plan "B" ready. These Macs with laptop
components just don't last forever like Desktop
Macs (and PC's) do. I put my old Mac mini out to
pasture not to long ago. I don't miss it, these
newer Macs are much faster. You won't miss yours! _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with
