Hi,
with my new MBP Arriving soon, I am moving my 2009 Mac Mini to an HTPC job. I will run plex on it most of the time (I have Apple Remote) so I wont need to have a keyboard or a mouse attached to it (I don't have the space for them either).

The thing is that, eventually, I will need to access the OS. I will run an Apache Tomcat Based WebPage, hosted on the Mini.

I would like to remote control the mini, using some sort of VNC. I have tried the Mac os X share screen on my girlfriend MB, and it works fine, but sometimes I will need to access the Mac Mini from a PC (windows/linux), and I need something compatible.

Does anyone has experience setting up a VNC server on the Mini?.

+1 for RealVNC - to drive a mini from.... a Vista PC.... shudder...

The VNC Server is, of course, built into OSX already.
System Prefs: Sharing: Computer Settings: VNC Viewers may control screen with password...

Another one is Vine VNC: http://sourceforge.net/projects/osxvnc/

I had looked to see if there was a way to access the stock VNC server in MacOS X (used by screen sharing) from a regular VNC client, but my tests with "Chicken of VNC" were unsuccessful.

Edit: After posting, I decided to double check my info. The "screen sharing" option will work with a regular VNC client. See:

http://www.learnosity.com/techblog/index.cfm/2008/1/31/OS-X-Leopard-and-Ubuntu-Screen-sharing--HOWTO

I tried with JollyFastVNC and it worked, so the limitation is with Chicken of the VNC as a client.
