| I'm a big fan of tromping around in flops in the spring and summer. How about you guys? Any particular brands or styles you fancy? I like the Sanuk and Reef brands to be honest. Just got a pair of the Sanuk Fault Lines with the yoga mat soles. They are super comfy! |

I wear sandals everyday around the house (hardwood). Flip-flops are not common in Canada. Most people wear sandals. Some people wear socks and sandals (usually only if they are wearing casual pants) (socks and sandals with shorts is frowned upon  ). |

Speaking of shorts...
I'm 75 and can still vividly remember getting my first pair of long pants (this was a life altering experience).
To this very day, you'll never catch me going back to short pants.
A google search points to a lot of research and evidence that wearing "flip-flops" for anything other then very brief periods is going to cost you dearly down the road. |

Growing up in Hawai'i, preferred footwear was either barefoot or slippers (go aheads, zories, flip flops, sandals, etc). Don't remember owning shoes until I was probably 10 or so and didn't ever have more than one pair at a time, dress shoes.
I still find myself migrating to slippers to this day, even when it's winter in California. Amazing the support in them nowadays; I have a pair of Island Pro slippers which have better structural support than most shoes.

Yeah, most of them have EVA soles now with a raised heel. That's like almost the same support as a running shoe. Another really comfortable pair of sandals-slash-shoes are the Carpe DM's from Sanuk. They totally feel like a flop on the inside but have some covering on top. I tried them on the other day and really like them. They'll probably be my next flippy-floppy purchase this summer. |

Grew up on a farm wearing shoes unless I felt like stepping on lots of rock, the occaisional snake, bees, animal feces of some sort barefoot and even when boating wore water shoes most of the time, barefoot when on the water though. At college I've seen flip-flops worn when it's below freezing outside in the snow and some people will only wear their heavy boots all the time, me it's either regular shoes or boots if I'll be needing them.
