I'm looking at replacing the missus' macbook with a new mini and was checking out the latest specs. Thunderbolt sounds nice, but I've not seen any devices that work with it and have never used it.

Does anyone have any opinions on it? Should I be considering moving her hard drives to ones that thunderbolt compliant?

Thanks,

GM

Do you remember when Apple first released the original iMac and you saw an explosion of USB devices. The situation with thunderbolt is very similar. Intel is pushing this technology as well and Apple was the first to introduce it. Thunderbolt is the future. Every other port out there is a zombie port that will eventually only survive as a adapter off of your thunderbolt bus. The only extras that may survive the fray are ethernet and SD card slot; although, there is no reason they might not suffer the same fate. It is really cool when you think about the fact that you will never have to worry about whether your Mac has a compatible port for X or Y.
