Several days ago I purchased a new Mac Book Pro they use DDR 3 PC 3 10600 ram. I had asked, and was answered by Phil if he thought DDR3 PC 3 10666 would work because you could get 2 4GB Skill sticks for 64dollars vs about 80 plus dollars at Newegg. I then later on found an article at Tom"s Hardware that explained it, and it comes down to how they round out the numbers.
Today the ram arrived and I put it in along with a WD Black 500 7200 speed and all works well. I will say prior to changing it it worked very good, it may be overkill for me but it is in and working.

Overkill? No way, you did the right thing.
By increasing the memory from 4gb to 8gb, you just took the load off of the hdd by eliminating the need for pagefiles on the hdd.
I would have done it also.
Was the original hdd a slow 5400 rpm?
By replacing it with a 7200 rpm hdd you will be very happy.
I just recent replaced my hdd on my macmini to a 7200 rpm and maxed out the ram and loving it.
Enjoy your mac! _________________ 2009 Late Mm 2.53ghz 8GB ram 320GB WD Scorpio Black HDD OSX 10.6.7, iMac G4 1.25ghz 2GB ram 160GB WD HDD OSX 10.5.8, 2008 MacBook 2.2ghz SR 4GB ram, 128GB Patriot Torx SSD |
