itunes just started to pinwheel

Hello everybody. My mini has worked great until last week. I went to add a file to itunes and it took like 30min to take. The pinwheel just went nuts. I have 4 external drives. But the itunes folder is on the main drive. Any suggestions? It is a large library but never had a problem until now. Itunes is now very slow and skips on songs and is freezing. The mini is a 2.0 c2duo w leopard. Should I start over and reformat or can I fix it?

Try repairing permissions on your main drive and see if that helps.

Tried repairing permissions but no dice. This is killing me.

Try removing the file you added and reboot. Then try deleting the iTunes plist.
