| I check the little box, but each time I visit this site I'm logged out. |

None that I know of. This happens each time I go to the site after shutting down my machine. I've made no changes to cookies that I know of.
My "accept cookies" setting in Safari Preferences is "only from sites I visit". |

| Are you getting here from a book mark? If I set my book mark to the home page, I have to click Log In, and that's it. I've had it where I don't have to do anything before. I don't remember how I did it. |

No, I'm entering "123" in the address bar and the rest of the home page's URL appears then I hit the "enter" key.
The next time I go to this site I'll use the bookmark instead. |

Do you access the site from any other browser(perhaps even Safari's top sites feature) or any other computer?
I'm not sure why they did it this way, but with phpBB 2.x boards, if you log in from another computer or browser, it will not automatically log you in, even if you set it to auto log in.
As always, deleting the cookies associated with the site might help too.
