One of our Minis has no groups in this box, the other has 42 groups
I'm sure that 42 is too many seeing as the other Mini works just fine with none.
Some have really weird names like Application Server, CVMS, Detached Signature, Developer Tools, Installer, Keytabusers, Print Operator, SMTP Mail Posting, Terminal, etc.... while other have more legit looking names like, Guest, Administrators, Public, Everyone, Creator Owner, etc.
Should I have all of these, any of these, or none of these? I did delete them all before, which may be why I lost my Admin Account ?

YOu can have as many or as few groups as you want in OS X Server. It sounds like you inherited this computer as these would have had to have been set-up by somebody: users and groups on server are a clean slate after installation.
The groups are set-up so the exact same permissions can be passed to groups of people, and they are all legitimate as determined by the person that set-up the server. I only have 2 groups as on a few people have access to my server, and there might be up to 42 groups if it were used for say a school, etc. You can delete or save them. Ultimately the Users are more important than the groups when it comes to deleting.
You might want to install OS X client over server. The learning curve is steep for Server, most people find client suits there needs and is much easier to operate. _________________ 2.0 GHz i7 Mini 8 GB RAM, OWC Merc Extreme SSD & Samsung Spinpoint

I have never had a server, and the install is a reasonably new one, from a 10..6.2 disk. (Not a server disk) on an almost new SSD.
I ran Tinkertool on it and found that "Show all group accounts" was checked for some reason, so I unchecked it and they are gone (hidden).
Just out of curiosity, I ran T/tool on the other Mini and checked "Show all group accounts", and low & behold!!! it showed up the same great big list of accounts, so in fact, they should be there (I think), but hidden. _________________ M1. 2009 Mac Mini - 2.26GHz C2D - 8GB OWC RAM - 120GB Mercury Extreme SSD - Shintaro Dock.

I'd never seen that list before which is why I thought you had a server install. The groups must be hidden by default. _________________ Phil
