So I was surfing SJ's new App. Store
and stumbled across a (New?) Cloning
and Backing up Application. Its called
"Get Backup v.2". Their is a free version
and a paid version. I've used it (the free
version) a few times to make incremental
backups that are bootable (a clone). So far
its worked just fine. The interface is a little
different but I like it for the most part.
Some of you might give it a try and post
what you think. I haven't sat down with
a stopwatch but it seems much faster
than the other Cloning App.'s I've used.
Its probably not, but I would be interested
in your impression?

BTW, I always try to download an App. from
their web site and not the App. Store by using
the link provided by the App. maker on the App.
store's web site. That way you have a zip file
of the App. which you can easily transfer to
your other Mac's. So far, when I've downloaded
an App. from the App. Store their hasn't been
any zip file down loaded that I can find. The only
way I've been able to get a zip file is from the App.
makers web site. Have you had a similar experience
and what do you think about that?

Bill, if it's a Free version couldn't you just download the app again onto the other computer, no need for a Zip file?
Now on the other hand, if it is a paid for App, maybe it is only intended to be used on 1 computer.

Well jb, I have an iMac in another room that doesn't
have an internet connection. I watch cable TV on it
and do a little AppleWorks, Open Office stuff. On
occasion I've had to reinstall something and having
a zip file on......well.......file makes that job easy.

I know if an App. is free I shouldn't complain no matter
how annoying it is to keep things running smoothly.
I can tell you jb, if I'm paying money it must be on a
CD/DVD/Zip or I'm not interested. I'm just not warming
up to SJ's new business model.

And while I'm complaining, what little I've seen/read
about Lion just makes me cold. I don't want my
desktop to look like a big iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.
I use Mandriva, a Linux Distro, on occasion. The more
SJ annoys me the more I will use something more
to my liking. I use Windows XP to run two Mapping
programs and thats it, why, because I find Windows
XP annoying.

Since Elgato has made EyeTV less friendly than I'm
accustomed to, it'll drive me to buy W7 in order to
use Windows Media Center. When you have a customer,
its stupid (bad business) to drive them to to your
competition. SJ and others are efin things up.

If I was young and fascinated by every new upgrade
I would wonder, whats that old fart complaining about?
I hate being a complainer but just because something
is new and different doesn't mean its good (or bad).
When you take a number of small annoying things and
add them together it becomes a big annoying thing.
Big annoying things drive me away. All of this
Mac/computer/Internet stuff is supposed to be fun
not annoying.

Killing the Alu-mini's upgrade path is annoying.
Heck, another reason to look elsewhere. Did I
mention that I didn't like SJ's new business model?
I thought so.

Aren't you glad you asked? Thanks for letting me vent!!!

According to the Mac App store FAQ, "Apps from the Mac App Store may be used on any Macs that you own or control for your personal use". So whether the app is free or not, you should be able to log in to the App Store using the same Apple ID and install them all on as many Macs as you want.

First item on the FAQ at time of writing :-

And yes, that would cause a problem with what I just said in my previous post. Sorry, missed that bit Smile
