esata hack numbers are really good. 178 read and 184 write using a pair of scorpio black 500gb hdds in raid0.


what does it mean close to ssd speed with 1tb size.

cost was about 230. I have to do some photos. I purchased the 199 dollar model pulled the hdds and put in the wd scorpio black 500gb hdds.

I set it up as raid0 not raid1. i just wish they would sell it empty. this unit has very nice guts. easy to play with.

A little more info. If comes with a wall wart for power but it runs off firewire800 jack. So if you plug this in firewire800 and have an esata hack you have a killer hdd for the mini. In fact this would be nice for a new iMac. Buy the iMac with a big hdd inside and send it off to do owc's esata hack.

Once again devices like this have really rendered fw800 as slow and obsolete apple really needs to get an esata jack option for the mini's and imac . just think buy a mini with a large 750gb hdd plug this in with a pair of good fast hdds in raid0 and you really quicken the machine.

Also you can carry this back and forth to work and home plug it into your work station and the computers in each area are effectively the same computer. small and pretty fast.

I am using it to clone an osx from my mac pro. the mac pro has a caviar black in it and this is using the 2 scorpio blacks. it will copy at 100MB/s and I can use it to boot any mac pro that has a firewire or a bootable esata pci card.

That MAXimus mini Enclosure looks awesome.
I'd buy one if I could get it without the drives.
It should sell for around $100. I have several
2.5 inch Discs without a home. I like that its
bootable off of its eSATA port.

Philip THIS looks like a similar enclosure without a
fan or LCD display but more RAID options. It holds
Dual 2.5" Hard Drives.


This is very tempting. I would prefer a fan an LCD.
