| I'm planning on buying a Mac Mini fairly soon. My question is wether I'll run into any problems with 2GB of RAM or if I need to upgraded to 4GB? |

wether I'll run into any problems with 2GB of RAM or if I need

I purchased my mini with half a Gig and upgraded to
two Gigs right away. I first used Tiger and when
just surfing the web less than one Gig was used.
Then, when I switched to Leopard around one Gig
was used, when not doing much more than surfing
the web.
Now that I'm using Snow Leopard one and a half
Gig's of my two Gig's is used. Other Mac mini users
milage including yours may vary. However I strongly
suggest you think about four Gigabytes as a minimum.
That is, if you don't want to see a Spinning Beach Ball,
much. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

I'm watching Cable TV with an Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus
which does most of the work so the mini's processor
doesn't have to and I have Safari open with two tabs.
Everything else is just normal system processes.

Five Gig's should hold you for a few years and most slowdowns won't be caused
by not enough RAM. Philip Arcario can probably give you a link for a great Christmas
price on RAM. If he doesn't catch this thread, PM him. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

More than with Tiger and Leopard.
Yes, I Repair Permissions frequently.
I also do more than just two things
at once as opposed to whats in my
example, like many people.
I think that stinks to be doing not much
and use 1.15 Gig's.
I use to use EyeTV with one 250 Plus
and one Hybrid. I now use two 250 Pluses.
Much better. I look forward to getting a
mini that can access more than two Gig's
of RAM. I suspect I'll be much happier. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

If SL & L are both doing the same things
you'll notice SL has more resources active
in your example, than L. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

| If you plan on using it for home theater, I would recommend going with 4GB. i bought one of the new mini's this year, and started out using 2GB. Running EyeTV, Plex and a few other smaller apps was OK, but everything was much smoother (especially PLEX) after I upgraded to 4GB. |

Leopard
Snow Leopard
I just had the same thoughts as "unblowupable5" 2 Gigs should work 4 Gigs is better, now that the prices for RAM have come down its a good time to upgrade.
I never had beach ball problems using 2 Gigs.
thanks, for the info. _________________ iMac 3.06ghz 27" 4gb ram C2D 1TB/LaCie d2 1T

Thanks for the link!
In another thread, I believe you mentioned holding off for the 2011 Mac Mini, to see what the 2nd generation of this design would offer. Would you advise me to do the same? |

Remember I have a house full of macs .
A 2009 2.53ghz mini
a 2009 2.66ghz mini
a 2009 3.08ghz imac and
a 2010 2.8 quad mac pro
Waiting is easy for me to do. I still maintain that as of today the 2009 2.66ghz mini is the best mini on the market. They come up in refurbs now and then. If I had to buy a mini I would prefer that refurb over the 2010 mini. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram
