My new iMac is due to be deliver in the next few days. Will I be able to restore my Mac Mini Time Capsule backup onto the new iMac, or is it not that simple?

Ideally, I don't want to have to re-installed and re-configure everything.

Thanks

I believe its possible. When you first turn on
the new Mac to set it up you should be able
to choose "Restore from Backup" then point
it toward your TimeCapsule backup.

Google around to find out the exact "How To".
Then please, inform us how it went.

Thanks! I've found a few guides, and it looks pretty straight forward. I'll let you know how it goes.

Incidentally, would I be better off having a clean install of OSX?

With Windows, I tend to re-install everything every twelve months, as it tends to get a bit messy. Is the same true of OSX?

THIS is my favorite site for TimeMachine related info.

Thats the general consensus however, Snow Leopard doesn't have a ton of PPC code mucking up the works. Because of that I didn't do a clean install with SL but migrated from a clone and everything is running so good I'll probably migrate again with Lion.

(edit: I apologize for not being clear, I used the default SL Install configuration which is an "UPGRADE")

Not really. If it makes you happy, go ahead and do it. It certainly won't hurt. You'll find only a few do a clean install every so often.

I would recommend you "Repair Permissions" on a regular basis. I do almost every morning then make a fresh clone. HERE's way to much info.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. We are here for ya.
