I had a Mac Mini for 6 months know and it was a great starter for me but know i'm ready to upgrade to a PowerMac Quad but as you may know Apple is putting Intel in their computers for the next couple of years but get to the question should I wait for Intel PowerMac or just go ahead and buy the PowerMac Quad?
And also can you use a Mac Mini as a extra drive on a PowerMac if you use firewire cable to hook it up? |

It doesn't sound like you "need" the PowerMac. So I'd wait until January and see what comes out. It may effect you purchase decision. (I doubt we will see a PowerMac update, but I would wait and see what else Apple offers).
Kind of strange that you would make such a big leap. You must like a nice fast system.
I wouldn't bother using the mini as an external drive for a quad machine. Seems pointless to introduce a bottleneck. I would sell the mini and put the money towards RAM or a bigger/additional drive for the PowerMac.
Another question you should ask yourself is...
Do you intend on running Windows XP the Mac? If so you might want to wait.
If you're thinking about running Vista on the Mac I wouldn't. By the time Vista comes out, hardware will have progressed so much that you may as well buy a Windows box and get a copy of the OS pre-installed/with it. |
