This problem reappeared at at 10.6.7 and 10.6.8 this time replacing the ATI kext files just ended up causing Kernel panics. I ended up sticking with 10.6.6 until last week when I took the plunge and installed 10.7.1 (Clean Install) within minutes my freezing iMac had returned.
I've put up with it for a week but I've been getting probably 3 or so freezes a night whilst running Lion. Tonight I decided enough was enough. The iMac is no more and I am now an official Mac Mini user.
My media centre Mini has now become my main machine and the iMac has been relegated to the family computer where it will be restored to 10.6.6 with the kext fix and never to be upgraded again.
Poor showing from Apple when I look at how old this thread is, I hadn't realised my problems with the iMac had been going on for so long and still Apple can't be arsed to fix the problem. Their forums have lots of other iMac users posting with the exact same problems since 10.6.3 Mines a 2007 iMac but even people with 2011's have been having the same issues. _________________ Phil
