|
|
I have so far a PC desktop user, with iphone, iPad, and MacMini as HTPC. Now, it's time for me to upgrade my PC desktop. I am seriously thinking of switching to Mac as my main desktop. Also, I had been a advanced amature photographer for a long time, and have high end digital SLR. However, I haven't done anything on the computer with photo, in ternms of modifying, enhancing, touching, processing, archiving. Since I am upgrading the computer, I thought I would like to start using desktop to do some digital processing, etc.
My question is on the choice of iMac. Hope to hear your recommendations:
1. My current display is a 24" Dell monitor. I think i would like to go for 27" on iMac.
2. I don't need huge storage on the computer, as I have many external drive and large home network storage, etc.
3. I don't do video editing at all. Probably won't be doing any in the future.
4. I need good graphic, good enough processing power to deal with Photoshop, etc. when I start doing digital processing of photo.
5. Graphic display should good for an adavanced amature photography.
What's a reasonable iMac configuration should I go for, that won't break my bank?
what's the difference of core2duo and Quard Core i5. Could someone help me decide which one of the three... pro and con

okay first off I own an iMac 27 inch with a 3.06Ghz and the better graphics card. the screen is glossy this may be a problem for you. I wall mounted my machine and gave it a slight down tilt. This stopped most glare. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

next the 2009 model I have has a good fw800 jack this will be your outside link to your external drives. The fw800 on the 2009 runs close to 75MB/sec.
The 2010 has a fw800 link also. you will not be able to offload faster then fw800. you will not be able to do any upgrades except RAM. An apple store can only upgrade the hdd from 1tb to 2tb. You can't upgrade the graphics card and you can't upgrade the cpu. I just want to give you the limits to the machine. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

The graphics and cpu on my machine are really good. I did add the full 16gb ram. I picked the ram up for 110 a stick so 440 got me the full ram. The card i have is a real improvement and I am happy with the machine for my needs..
mostly tv/dvr the all in one was important to me. I would consider getting a 2010 21 inch machine. the i3 core is very good and fast.

these do have much faster speed trials _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

real world the 27inch imac from 2009 with i5 and i7 cores was faster but had heat issues. these heat issues caused a lot of screen failure. if you get an i5 or i7 quad core you will need to keep it cooler then the 3.06 or 3.33. i will look for the link to the thread _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

Just killed the deal
iMac 27" won't take any video input except MacBook or pro... I have several PC's under my desk. I would have to have another monitor... that's a deal killer.
Apple's narrow mindedness just turned me off |
