Very true Cypher, and if I do attach four 20-inchers to a quad monitor bracket, my desk would start to look exactly like that. 
I wonder whether a Mac Pro could be made to drive 6 displays?

Thats one thing I do miss since I switched to the Mac. I ran with a three monitor setup in my windows days and now struggle with only two

Is 'available desk space' still the thing that's holding you back from getting a third screen?

I already have three screens on my desk, two for the iMac and one for my old windows PC in my desk / windows laptop from work hooked up to a docking station but its rarely, if ever, that I turn any of these on nowadays.
I have looked at going the USB video card route to gain the third monitor but at the moment other priorities have taken my ££ such as Drobo, Mac Mini, new HDD's etc. Next on my list is a larger second monitor after that I may look at the third monitor option

A Mac Pro can support up to 8 displays
with additional graphics cards.
