Monox iCube Mini for Mac Mini
Friday December 2, 2005
Well, it seems like every week there is a new accessory for the Mac mini being released in Japan. This week, we have the Monox iCube mini 3.5-inch hard drive enclosure. The Monox iCube mini comes in two models. A USB 2.0/FireWire model for ¥ 5,980 (US $50) and USB 2.0 model for ¥ 4,980 (US $40). The iCube mini uses a heat sink, extra vents in the back, and "Ultra-quiet" fan for cooling. The model with FireWire is capable of daisy-chaining up to 63 additional devices. Both kits come with the enclosure itself, 15cm cables, 12V AC Adapter, screw kit, and instruction manual. We don't know if the Monox iCube mini will make its way over to the United States, but we will keep on the lookout.

From the looks of it:
--It matches perfectly!
--There's no logo on the front!
Could this be the one?

They also include 15cm cables (instead of 3 feet). And it's not too expensive (the FireWire/USB model doesn't cost much more than the USB-only model, too).
However, aside from the "no logo in front", there's not much to differenciate this product from the 10+ Mac mini-styled hard drive enclosures. It also lacks hubs. |

The one with firewire would be pretty appealing over here in the good US of A. The price isn't that great when you compare it to the miniStack. I think it looks better though. I'm not that crazy about the miniStack's front LED . It does have all those extra ports though. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I simply disconnected the front LED of my M9-DX. |
