I've just bought a Mac Mini to use a a HTPC, I also bought the bluetooth keyboard which I plan to use on that and the iPad. I'm also going to need a mouse and was wondering how well the Magic Mouse is working out for people. I would be using it from across the room to the mini around 12-14 feet or so.
How well does it work on your knee ?
Are there any alternatives I should try before the Magic Mouse. _________________ Phil

I have one and use it on my MacBook. It is very stable in it's operation. Very sensitive, as well. However, the profile of the mouse is very flat. I doubt that it would be very comfortable to use on one's knee. For about the same price, take a look at the Logitech Performance Mouse MX.

I have had good luck with Logitech mice. They offer a high degree of configurability and work well with Apple computers. The higher rise in the profile would probably offer a bit more comfort to use in the manner you describe. Battery life would, no doubt, be considerably better. Magic Mice are known for short battery life. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

I've been looking at Logitech mice, I gave up on the Apple Mighty mouse after three returns due to dodgy scroll balls but wondered if it was time to try out the Magic Mouse. I think you have sufficiently put me off going that route with the reminder over battery performance.
The Performance MX looks good. What sort of range do you get from it. I want to be able to operate it from the sofa say 12ft away. Charging actually won't be an issue as I can plug it in when ever it's not being used. The MX looks very easy to do this with. I would expect to be using it watching TV so will be on my knee, stomach, arm of the sofa, floor etc _________________ Phil

It should be good to 30 to 35 feet. The thumb wheel rolls like silk. Don't get me wrong, I do like my Magic Mouse but, the battery life is an issue for consideration. Given what you are setting up, my personal choice would be the Logitech. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

I think the Performance MX definitely fits the bill then. Thanks for the help. _________________ Phil

Apple has done something remarkable with the Magic Mouse battery life.
Had them since the week they came out and the same batteries are in it, though I don't use it 100 % of the time, when I am just writing for instance. _________________ The only way to innovate is to design lots of things that don't work. |

| If you're getting an iPad, maybe try Mobile Mouse app. |

I got a Logictech recently, love it, but the scroll wheel as nice at it is, sometimes doesn't work. Checked online, seems it is an issue here & there. Something to consider. Love it when it does work. _________________

The one being talked about, the Performance MX. Matter of fact, just powered up the mini, and the scrollwheel isn't working again. Will be taking this back this weekend.
Update: Figured out what it is, it is the crappy @$$ battery. Went into the control center, said battery life was low, even after I just charged it the day before. I guess the scroll wheel goes out when the charge is too low. May look into a different rechargeable battery.
I prefer the Logictech's where you supply the batteries. They last longer! _________________

I love my Magic Mouse except it consumes Batteries quickly. I have to change the Mouse Batteries 4X before I ever have to change the KB Batteries. I know I'm lazy & use my Mouse a lot but this is ridiculous. I'm using these with the Late 2009 iMac. Don't know if that should matter. _________________ iMac 27" 3.06 8GB ATI 4670 1TB HD

I bought the Logitech Performance MX today, just waiting for the Mac Mini to arrive now so I can test it out. Thankfully the Mini has shipped and is due to be delivered tomorrow _________________ Phil

Let us know how you like the mouse. The Mini probably goes without saying. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

I have a magic mouse, and was wondering if you all leave the mouse on, or if you turn it off until you are going to use it?
If you turn it off, does it sync back up on its own? _________________ Gayle
