TigerDirect is selling UNLOCKED iPhone's
So here is my DUMB question of the day.
Is Apple now allowing vendors to sell unlocked
iPhones?
Is this legit? It says OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture).
I can't imagine paying $849.99 for a cell phone.
Am I missing something?
Wouldn't be the first time!!!
Thanks! _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

| You have to be very careful about this. Not really for legal reasons, but technical reasons. You need to check what frequencies your provider operates at. I think the iPhone is specifically engineered to not work without ATT. |

It states OEM, so that leads me to believe TigerDirect
got them from apple and has their blessing. I've also
been reading that unlocked iPhones were going to be
available, just no one new when.
Maybe "when" is now.
Still to expensive for me. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

We can buy them in the UK unlocked. O2's agreement to be the sole supplier ended earlier this year.
It could also be Apple starting to offload stock prior to a new iPhone release _________________ Phil

I believe they are just tri, or quad, band phones that use a SIM chip. Not all cell companies use SIM chips for the user data.
Otherwise, and I can't recall the vendor, but I saw unlocked iPhones for $500. I looked at the specs and they said that the phones were new, in unopened boxes.
So, either iPhones ship unlocked and lock to a carrier when activated, or the ad was erroneous.
Also, T-Mobile in Germany sells them unlocked, or did.
