Apple Holding iPhone OS 4 Event on Thursday
Monday, April 05, 2010
Posted by: Glenn
Apple sent out invitations today for a special iPhone OS 4 media event to be held on Thursday, April 8th. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific Time in the Town Hall on Apple's Cupertino, California campus. The invitations for the event simply read "get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS" with a large "4" casting a shadow across the ground.

Ooo! Ooo! My money's on speech recognition, or at the very least, voice command control! _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

The iPhone 3GS does have voice control, but the commands are very limited. It would be nice to see that expanded. I would also like to see a new home screen. Like with shortcuts to your contacts and widgets. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

"Get a sneak peek" points to nothing new on thursday. More likely it will be along the lines of OS4 will be released in July and comes with...???? and will be a paid for upgrade for all iPad and Touch users _________________ Phil

I get ya.
Apple have been on record and said that multitasking will kill iPhone battery life, and probably so. But the market has, and is demanding it... at least to keep it running alongside the new competitors.
We may not see a fully blown multitasking solution like Win Mobile (and thank God), but rather a limited one. Let's say, you get to select 2 processes (apps) that are allowed to run in the background, and no more.
Perfect, in my opinion. _________________ iPhone 4 16GB

Supposedly it's been stated that IPad uses get one free OS update, probably with this very thing in mind. _________________

| This update and the announcement timing doesn't surprise me at all. Apple has to keep the rumor mills churning. I'm sure all iPad users will get a free update as most of the world doesn't even have access to the iPad yet. |

There's always room for one more thing...

I'm thinking Apple is going to treat the iPad like the iPod touch and major updates will set you back a couple bucks. Have you guys read anythng about that?

Finally, something we can agree on. An iPhone on Verizon would be awesome. |

And an iPhone on Sprint would be awesomer. OK yea, just dreaming. It wouldn't be allowed on my current plan anyway...but I can still hope. _________________ Mercury TiBook 400MHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, Airport

I haven't heard anything. I personally think it will hurt Apple if they do. They shouldn't treat the touch or the iPad like they are second rate, it's pretty offensive.
