Apple Updates AirPort Utility and Base Station Firmware

Apple has released the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme Base Station Firmware Update 7.5.1. According to the company, this firmware update provides several fixes for the latest Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme Base Station. This would include fixing an issue with wireless performance in the 5GHz band and creating Guest Networks. More information about this update, which also includes instructions on installation, can be found here.

Apple also released the AirPort Utility 5.5.1 for Mac. This update fixes and issue with importing a configuration and propagating MAC address control lists when using an extended network. It weighs in at 10.24MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5.7 or later.

It would be nice if they'd let Snow Leopard have admin capabilities with Snow & Graphite base stations.

Not everyone can afford to dump something that's working when Apple comes out with a new do-dad.

do-dad ?

Yeah Apple is funny that way. They don't try to make the latest 64 bit OS compatible with a bandwidth limited base station that's a decade old.

Oh wait, NO computer manufacturer does that.

Most people in this country don't have Internet speeds at home much beyond 8...well within the limits of the old Airports. I'd guess the majority of people are at 1.5. I'm not going to buy a $300 base station/backup unit when my Internet is only 1.5.

I would hope you're not going to spend $300.

The current AEBS is $179 and the Express is $99.
