Princeton PC Switcher for Mac Mini
Wednedsay November 16, 2005
Princeton of Japan has unveiled the PC Switcher for Mac mini. The Princeton PC Switcher is a 2-Port VGA KVM Switch with built-in audio support and USB 2.0 Hub all rolled into one package. A concept that is somewhat similar to the yet-to-be released Belkin Flip. The front of the unit features a video input selector switch, LED indicator, 3.5mm headphone jack, 3.5mm microphone jack, and two USB 2.0 ports. The PC Switcher supports video resolutions up to 2048 X 1536. The PC Switcher will start shipping later this month in Japan. We don't know if this product will be offered in the United States.

It sure seems like these Japanese companies are more excited about the mini. I wouldn't mind having one of these with DVI. |

| KVMs might become a thing of the past for Mac users once the MacIntels come out. You'll be able to buy an Intel mini in a few months and dual boot into the nasty. |

I've been to Tokyo twice, and it is an absolutely fascinating experience. The Japanese love novelty, especially when it involves things that are both cute and small. It's a cultural thing.
I'm not the slightest bit surprised that the Mini seems to be a big hit over there, after all it is small and cute!

I think the Cube sold better in Japan. Electronic companies in Japan are willing to take bigger risks because the add-on and computer accessories aftermarket is huge over there. We have to wait on the Belkins of the world.  |

So... The Mac Mini has DVI.
The Mac Mini is really small, and not very many will use it with a CRT screen since that completely negates the size.
Why then, does this product, as well as the Belkin one, not feature DVI connectivity?
Are they stupid or is it just me? |

I think they are stupid. I guess they don't think enough Windows boxes have DVI.

| I read somewhere that the PowerBook 2400 was a huge hit in Japan even after it was woefully outdated, because of it's small form factor. One thing I noticed while shopping online for a DVI kvm, is that they are rather expensive. |

The mini and the iMac have to sell well in Japan for space savings alone. Some of those apartments are smaller than some people's walk-in closets in this country. Japan is a really cool place though. I had a chance to visit over there once when I was in the Air Force. I would like to go back someday. |

I used to recite this statistic all the time when explaining about Japan. I'm sure the numbers have changed over the years but it is probably still pretty close. The entire surface area of Japan is equal to the state of Montana. 75% of Japan's land is mountainous thus, majority live on the remaining 25%. Japan's population is roughly half of the entire US including Hawaii and Alaska. 10% of that population live in Tokyo.
Yeah, us nipponese like small cute stuff, especially if it can kick ass. We like to see tiny heroes take down giant enemies. Speedy Gonzalez, Mighty Mouse, Jerry of Tom and Jerry, Mac Mini. They are all heroes by Japanese standards.
