Earlier I was running iTunes, Google Chrome, and virtualbox with an XP machine going. My temperature was riding at 180' Farenheit.
That's hot!
Has anyone else noticed their unibody macbook pros running hot? Or would that be normal considering the load I was running. Normally it's running around 120'

Most macbook pro's i have seen run anywhere from 80-100 but 180 Wow that is hot for a laptop...
did you run a hardware diagnostic on it or take it into a apple store to see if there machines on display are doing the same thing???
180 makes me concerned even!!! |

My 13 inch Macbook Pro unibody that I'm using right now to type this is running 110 with only Firefox open. I think that is fairly normal. The computer itself feels stone cold. 180 is hot alright, but they are designed to run at these temps.

180ยบ holy cow, is that the new iGrill by George Formanl? Are you using SMC fan control? I get temp rise if I'm playing C&C and ripping a DVD in the background, but if those cases I set the fan control to medium to help dissipate the heat.

It's happening when I run a virtual machine. I turn the fans to about ~3000 and it comes back down to about 130-140.
The normal operating temp (iTunes, Chrome, jIRCii) it runs about 115-120.

The majority of the parts inside a laptop can handle 180 f , but not all of them. No oem hdd or ssd will last long at 180f. Lots of other parts of the computer will break down much quicker if your machine runs at 180f for long time periods.
high temp ssd's cost a lot of money. the one below is rated for 85c it is 2500. 85 c is 185 f

google high temp hdd 70c is very hard on an hdd

I will just keep my time on the virtual machine at a minimum or I could just bootcamp.
I don't want to partition my Hard drive, it's only 160gb. Maybe after I upgrade (500GB maybe?) I'll look into bootcamp.
