I'm using the latter as it cost less. But it seems to work fine.
I have sometimes have an issue with the screen colours after the mini has been asleep - but a click on 'Detect Display' from the Hardware, Displays from System Preferences (that I keep in the toolbar) and it fixes it. I have no idea if this is cable related though. |

| You are one of the lucky few! Never seem to be any refurbished units when I check. Maybe I should wait a little longer. Was going to order the lower end model from Amazon this afternoon. |

Indeed. I missed a 2.66 by minuets and we've had a couple of servers up there recently but there was a 2.26 and 'my' 2.53 one morning a couple of weeks ago - I snapped it up before anyone else was awake!
Not been any on the UK site since....! |

The first URL shows an Apple Branded Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter. This will work with you CRT, but keep in mind that the MiniDisplayPort is 100% digital. It lacks the RGB and Sync signals of the standard VGA. So the adapter needs to have some sort of electronics to change the digital information into Analogue VGA signals.
This is the reason why one costs 30 bucks, and the other just 4.
The second one, is a MiniDVI to VGA adapter (Apple Brand is more expensive, and ultimately the same as any cheap Chinese adapter). I have an original Apple Branded of this, and I have a cheaper Chinese copy. Both work ok.
This is just a cable, since the MiniDVI port has the RGB and Sync signals of the VGA.
I do not know why apple is not selling Minis with the MiniDVI to DVI-I cable. The pins are already there, and anyone can use a cheap DVI-I to Vga adapter.
If I were you, I would go for the Cheaper MiniDVI 2 VGA cable I could find. |

I have used both Mac Mini port adapter cables to both VGA and DVI and can't see a difference in either one. Both ports seem to provide the same performance on LCD displays. _________________ Retired: Altair 8800, PET, TI 99/4A, Apple II
