I have one of the first mac mini models that did not come with 802.11 G or N. Now I need to add it so that the kids can watch netflix on there media server. I bought one from amazon but I cant get it to work.

I just upgraded my home router to the Airport Extreme. That was an easy setup. What short of an airport extreme can I get for the mini. I wish the airport would work.

Are the mini and the Airport Extreme Base Station in the same room? If so, an Ethernet cable between them sounds the best bet?

I do not fully understand what you mean.

Can you specify which Mini model you have? which router do you have?.
Do you need it to be 802.11 A/B/G/N ?.

Well its one of the first mac minis that Apple offered. The airport internal card was an option for it but I did not get it at the time. My router is an Airport Extreme, the newest version with Dual channel N.

The Mini is not in the same room and running ethernet is not an option. Wish it was. So wireless N is the way to go.

Apple told me that they no longer offer the airport card for the mini.

So I am looking for another solution for the mini that works easy like the airport.

You should be able to find one on ebay or some other sites maybe. Have you searched this site for external usb wireless nics that work with Minis?

I am pretty sure you won't have a 802.11 N with the Minis Airport Express Card.
Nevertheless, the minis airport express 802.11 b/g will work with your Airport Router.
It will work at 54Mbps (not 150mbps like 802.11n). It will be more than enough for almost everything.

You should look for an Airport Express Card on eBay. I bought one for an old iBook a couple of weeks ago, so I guess it won't be hard to get the model you need.

Or just get a USB wireless dongle...

Maybe like this one?
