http://www.morphos-team.net/ has the details and the unregistered version will give full performance for 30 minutes after a reboot. It runs fast and is designed to resemble AmigaOS and is largely source-code compatible with AmigaOS 3.x also.

For discussion of the OS itself, you can read about it at http://www.morphzone.org/. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you find software for it there. Also there is an unofficial guide to making a dual-boot at http://dreamolers.binaryriot.org/dualboot.pdf but take care when resizing your MacOSX partition.

The fact that MorphOS only runs on Power PC hardware, which is a dead end in the computer world, it doesn't look too hopeful for the future, now that Apple has gone from the Power PC to the Intel brand of microprocessors.

Yeah. I've got an Intel Mac Mini so I can't even try it out. I've heard MorphOS performs really well on old hardware, though. So I'm sure somebody will want to get better speed than MacOSX 10.5.x has on PPC.

I ran the live CD on my G4 1.425, last night to see what all the hub bub was about. It's fast, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I was never into the Amiga platform anyway. I might think about installing it, but not for the 150.00 or more that they want for it in the States. Confused

Yeah, the exchange rate is brutal! 150 Euros to buy something with a 19% VAT included to a government that isn't even ours!

Might be dead end, but G4s keep on ticking! Very Happy

Tiny OS download by todays standards...Only 100 Mb.

Hmm...I am wondering what technical issues are preventing MorphOS from working with ALL Mac's G4 range...?

Any clues or ideas as to why this is the case...?

Aqua

PS:

G4's Live 4 ever... hence the name.. Wink Cool

@SamuraiCrow: No offense here, but stating "to a government that isn't even ours!" is kinda selfish, don't you think?
I know the USD to Euro ratio is awfull, and the VAT is a lot, but if i took it from your point of view, i've probably paid a fortune towards your government by buying all the things i did till now! Heck, even my MacMini is part of the deal...
And don't even bother asking about shipping and customs here!
Anyway, reason i ain't purchasing this particular OS isn't where it comes from (obviously) that's no excuse. I agree that its cost is high, but the worst part is that you can't move it to another Mac, not even another Mini! The developers will give you a license that works only with a single computer. I think it ties to your MAC address. Which means that if your Mini goes bazonka, you're left in the cold! And considering these computers are aging it just won't do it for me. Yes, it might be a small group of developers, and cost is high on producing something, but the strategy is obsurd in my opinion. If you wanna sell high, at least do something for the license part.

@Aquafire: There's plans for more G4 Macs ahead, and some are already in testing stage. I think PowerBook is up next. Probably has to do with the OF part of being different.. I found a video link

As you're outside of the EU, you shouldn't be paying any VAT at all. If the site automatically charges VAT on all orders, regardless of the customer's location, that's something that the site's owners need to sort out...
