Hi,

Sold my old Dell tower and emachines laptop and got enough funds to justify my mini purchase.

I ordered the base model mini. 2.26 ghz, 2 gigs ram, 160 harddrive.

I have a 500 gigabyte external, a 22 inch acer monitor, and a dell keyboard microsoft wireless mouse combo I plan on using.

I agonized over the ram upgrade, but I just couldn't justify the extra 100 right now. . . (not rich).

So, how bad will it be with only 2 gigs? I'll probably never get the nerve to crack the case (seen the videos). ..

Tell me about all the best freeware I have not heard of (my 1st mac).

Found it funny it was shipping direct from China. . .

with 2 gigs it depends on your wants for the mini. I don't think it runs snow leopard well on 2 gigs

I did not crack my first mini case a 1.66 until I owned a second mini. I kept the owc video queued up and played it over and over as I did the work.

Similar boat here, just got the base 2GB and I'll see how it does. Not sure about the putty knife on my new Mini but if I need to I'll take it under the knife and hope I don't muck it up to bad.

I purchased the same 2.26GHz Mac Mini back in November. 2GB was more than enough for most tasks (inc Photoshop), but I did find running Window 7 in Fusion was slow (as you'd expect, as it was using virtual memory). Snow Leopard ran just fine on 2GB, and apps opened quickly and were responsive.

I upgraded to 4GB a week or so ago, and the difference is immense. Everything just seems even nippier, and running Windows 7 in Fusion is now a snap. It's so fast.

So, as you'd expect, 2GB is just fine and dandy for all but the greediest of tasks, but 4GB is just a joy to work with.

Thanks for the info on 2 gigs - I won't be running windows on it at all, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Well, just checked the tracking - it just arrived in Alaska. Lol, my computer will have been many more places than me. . .

Still showing Thursday delivery for me - figures I have to work a 12 that day.
